LYON COUNTY BOARD OF CANVASSERS MINUTES

NOVEMBER 15, 2023

The Lyon County Board of Canvassers met at 9:00 a.m. in the Commission Chambers to review the 2023 City/School Election results with the following people in attendance.

Commissioner Martin called the meeting to order and asked for the election results.

 

Election Officer Vopat presented the results of the 2023 City/School Election.

 

The unofficial election night results include Advance, Mail and Polling Place ballots cast of 4502.

Per Kansas Statutes, an audit was conducted following the state procedures.  The audit results matched the election night results.

 

A total of 55 mail ballots were received on Day 1 following the election.  1 ballot was received on Day 2 following the election with a late postmark.  15 ballots were received on Day 3 following the election.  1 had a valid postmark date with 14 late postmark dates.   

 

A total of 4 UOCAVA ballots were received and counted bringing our unofficial total ballots cast to 4562.

 

A total of 61 Provisional Ballots were cast for this election with the following reasons:

36: Change of Address KSA 25-2553

6:   Name change   KSA 25-2316

3:  Clerical error KSA 25-2908

2:  Advance ballot not returned KSA 25-2908

2:  Wrong Precinct- partial count KSA 25-3002

6: Not registered in Lyon County KSA 36-2302

4: Voted at polls KSA 25-2434 

2: Voted in advance and at polls KSA 25-2416

 

Motion:  To Accept and count 49 ballots as allowed by Kansas Statutes.                                  Martin/Duft 3-0

 

Motion:  To not Accept 12 provisional ballots as allowed by Kansas Statutes.                        Martin/Peck 3-0

 

Meeting recessed at 9:08 a.m. to allow for ballots to be finalized,

 

Meeting reconvened at 9:36 a.m.

 

Election Officer Vopat presented the final results of the 2023 City/School Election with a total of 4611 ballots cast resulting in a 22.97% turnout.

 

Motion:  To Accept the Final Results of the 2023 City/School General Election.                     Martin/Duft 3-0

 

Election Officer Vopat thanked all those who worked in making the election a successful one.
