BILLING AND COLLECTION OF REAL ESTATE, PERSONAL PROPERTY, 16-20M TRUCKS, OIL AND GAS, AND UTILITY TAXES

Statements for the real estate, personal property, 16-20M trucks, oil and gas, and utility taxes are mailed out as close to November 1st as possible each year. Receipts are mailed only upon request.

REAL ESTATE AND UTILITY TAX

Full or half tax is due by December 20. If the first half is not paid on or before December 20, interest will be added. Second half tax is due by May 10; if not paid by May 10, interest will be due on the full amount. Real Estate and utility tax unpaid on August 1 will be advertised in the official newspaper and a $16.00 fee will be added. If tax remains unpaid on the first Tuesday in September, the tax is collected on a delinquent redemption certificate.

PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX, 16-20M TRUCKS, OIL AND GAS TAX

Full or half tax is due December 20. If the first half is not paid on or before December 20, the full amount becomes due with interest. The second half tax is due by May 10. Interest will be added if not paid by that date. If the tax remains unpaid after the due dates, tax warrants will be issued by the Sheriff’s Office for collection, and will be subject to interest and additional fees.All personal property, 16-20M trucks, and oil and gas tax remaining unpaid on October 1 will be advertised in the official newspaper and a $15.00 fee will be added. The tax, interest, and all fees will be entered in Lyon County District Court as a judgment against the delinquent taxpayer.

  • We collect tax payments and also give refunds for motor vehicles that have been sold or traded down.
  • Proof of insurance is required to tag vehicles.
  • Current Kansas Drivers License is required to tag vehicles.

DISTRIBUTION OF TAX MONIES TO TAXING DISTRICTS

Tax monies will be available to the taxing districts on or near the following dates:

January 20
March 20
June 5
September 20
October 31

All monies in the account at the end of the calendar year will automatically be remitted to the taxing district.
